Artist Statment
While making sculpture I constantly move between chaos and order. This path between chaos and order is of interest.
My early benches and chairs were both functional and sculptural. Over the years my repertoire has included subjects such as whitetail deer, clothing, quilts, game boards, toys, and variations on the human figure. These familiar objects are constructed with unexpected materials and a bit of irony. Along with these materials comes old paint and faded color.
Within these common themes I reference our cultural landscape by using materials often overlooked. We live in an increasingly disposable world with a growing rate of consumption. Broken things are not fixed but rather thrown away. I repurpose these discarded elements and alloy them into sculptural forms. These pieces have an inherent history of previous utility. This brings new possibilities to overlooked materials.
